Discover Coeur d’Alene: Is This Idaho Gem a Good Place to Live?
Moving to Coeur d’Alene: A Gem in the Pacific Northwest
Are you considering a move to Coeur d’Alene? Perhaps you’re wondering, “Is Coeur d’Alene a good place to live?” Well, as someone who has embraced life in Northern Idaho, I’m here to share why Coeur d’Alene isn’t just a good place to live—it’s a fantastic one, especially with the growth and development it has been experiencing lately.
A Thriving Community Amidst Natural Beauty
Coeur d’Alene, often affectionately called CDA by us locals, is seeing a vibrant phase of growth that blends its small-town charm with exciting new developments. This city, nestled by the stunning Lake Coeur d’Alene and surrounded by forested hills, is not only a picturesque postcard but also a hub of activity. I am always surprised to here about cool new companies with roots here.
Economic Growth and Opportunities
The economic landscape of Coeur d’Alene is thriving, thanks to a surge in new businesses and industries setting up shop here. From tech startups to artisan boutiques, the local economy is buzzing with innovation and entrepreneurship. This growth brings with it numerous job opportunities and makes the city a promising place for both young professionals and families looking to put down roots. There are surprisingly fast internet speed available in even the towns smaller than CDA, which is a big driver for remote workers (like me).
A Focus on Community and Lifestyle
Coeur d’Alene places a strong emphasis on community and lifestyle. The city is packed with parks, hiking trails, and bike paths that make it easy to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. The downtown area is a blend of historic charm and modern convenience, hosting everything from farmers’ markets to music festivals, ensuring that there’s always something happening. I was shooting some video at the Art Spirit gallery and I was shocked at the quality of art work packed in there! So many talented people there including my favorite local artist Doug Fluckiger.
Education and Family Living
For those moving with family, Coeur d’Alene offers excellent educational resources, including well-regarded public and private schools. The community is known for being exceptionally welcoming, making it easy for newcomers to feel at home and become part of the local fabric.
We opted to live about an hour and 15 minutes North of Coeur D’Alene, but come here frequently. To be honest, Costco and Winco is the big draw for us. Great places to get food in bulk. But we also come to enjoy the restaurants and many family friendly activities.
In this picture our son Sam is climbing on an old root system near down town. Can you tell he’s loving it? If you want to learn more about our journey from the Denver area to North Idaho check out one of my favorite blog posts here.
The Natural World at Your Doorstep
One of the most compelling reasons to live in Coeur d’Alene is the access to nature. Whether it’s boating on Lake Coeur d’Alene or exploring the nearby national forests, the opportunities for outdoor recreation are endless. It’s a significant draw for those who cherish the environment and outdoor activities as part of their daily lives.

Cultural Richness
Coeur d’Alene is not lacking in cultural experiences, with a variety of galleries, theaters, and museums that celebrate both local and national art. The community strongly supports the arts, which is evident in the numerous public art installations and cultural events throughout the year.
Conclusion: A Growing Gem
In conclusion, Coeur d’Alene is more than just a good place to live; it’s a growing gem in the Pacific Northwest that offers a unique blend of natural beauty, economic opportunity, and a strong sense of community. For me and our family, it’s still a little to “city”. But if you’re looking for a vibrant place to start a new career or a serene retreat to raise a family, Coeur d’Alene welcomes you with open arms.
