Morgan grew up just about everywhere. Before her family landed in Bonners Ferry when she was going into sixth grade, she had already lived in Texas, Nevada, Oklahoma, Utah, the Caribbean, Washington, Oregon, and Pennsylvania. North Idaho turned out to be the place that finally stuck. By the time of the wedding, this will be her eleventh summer here, which means she has lived in Boundary County longer than she has lived anywhere else in her entire life.
All that moving shaped her. She learned how to be self reliant early. By high school, Morgan was a three sport athlete (soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter, track in the spring) and a state champion pole vaulter, though she will tell you she does not love bringing that up. She would rather be known for who she is now than for anything she did at seventeen.
She had also already figured out how to stand on her own. By the end of high school, Morgan was not looking for a relationship. She had done some quiet healing of her own, made peace with where she was, and decided she just wanted to be happy, whether that came with someone or without someone. She was completely content being single.
And then, in a way that only really makes sense looking back, Dalin showed up.
Technically, their story actually started a few years earlier, back in high school. They shared halves of the soccer field, and one day Dalin found a dime, handed it to Morgan, and said, "a dime for a dime." It was quick, playful, and easy to forget at the time.
But it turns out it was not nothing.
Fast forward to September of 2023. Dalin is sitting on a couch with a buddy, playing beer darts and scrolling Facebook, when Morgan's profile pops up under "people you may know." He looks over at his friend and asks, "What do you think of Morgan? Should I text her?" His friend says yes. And just like that, he does.
Their first conversations were not polished. Within the first few Snapchats, Dalin casually told her he had once run a friend over with a four wheeler. It was honest, it was him, and Morgan stuck around to hear more.
They talked for about two weeks before meeting in person. Their first date was four movies in a row that they barely watched, because they spent the whole time talking. They did not even kiss. There was no pressure and no script, just hours of conversation.
The very next week, both of their families happened to be at the same wedding, separately. Around ten o'clock at night, Dalin was driving back home to Sandpoint when Morgan texted to ask if he wanted to come hang out. He turned the car around and drove all the way back, just to spend more time with her and her family. He took her midnight calls too, even on nights he had work in the morning.
He kept showing up. Quietly. Consistently. As himself.
And then there was a single moment that said everything.
Dalin came over for one of his first family dinners with the Burts. They were having steak. Growing up, Morgan's dad had always cut her steak for her, all the way into adulthood. It was just one of those small, familiar things. That night, without a word and without making it a thing, Dalin picked up the knife and cut her steak for her.
That was when she knew.
It was not really about the steak. It was that he had paid attention, understood her world, and stepped into it without needing to be told how.
That same instinct showed up everywhere else. When the Burts went on family trips, Dalin came along. He almost made the family trip to Mexico right after they started dating, and went on the next one in March. He fell in love with her family, and they fell in love with him. He bonded with her little nephews, especially Beckham, who was three months old when Morgan and Dalin first got together and now calls him Dalley. The two of them have, Morgan will happily admit, a better relationship than she does with either of them.
He fit. He just fit.
These days, their life has a rhythm. From May through September, Morgan and Dalin are at the lake nearly every weekend. Lake Pend Oreille is their place. Dalin's family keeps a spot down there, so the boat stays close, and most of their best memories live somewhere between the dock and the water. When people ask Morgan what she and Dalin do, that is what she tells them. They go to the lake. They disconnect. They laugh. They have their time. It is where they are happiest.
So when it came time to talk about how Dalin would propose, Morgan had rules. No holidays. No birthdays. No anniversaries. No proposals on a beach somewhere. She wanted the day to belong only to them. Dalin bought the ring in June of 2024 and then sat on it for over a year, waiting for the right moment.
That moment turned out to be Tokyo. Morgan had spent the whole countdown to the trip telling Dalin how many days he had left ("twenty seven, twenty six, twenty five..."), checked the safe for the ring the morning of their flight (it was gone), and arrived at the Airbnb in Tokyo exhausted and ready for bed. Her sister Tori, in on the plan, kept finding reasons to keep her awake. Let me show you how the shower works. Let me give you the tour. Finally, at the top of the house, Tori opened a balcony door, and Dalin was on one knee.
After more than a year of waiting, Morgan finally got to say yes.
What works about Morgan and Dalin is the balance. Morgan brings the energy. She is wild, adventurous, always moving. Dalin brings the calm. Steady, grounded, and patient enough to absorb whatever the day throws at him. They are the kind of couple that is always ready for an adventure, always ready to make each other laugh, and always ready to be the life of the party.
But maybe the most important part of their story is this:
With Dalin, Morgan never has to be anyone other than herself.
She does not have to perform, hold back, or shrink. He lets her be completely, unapologetically her. That is what makes everything else easy.
Now, with the wedding on the way, they are not stepping into something uncertain. They are ready. Ready to be married. Ready to build a life together. Ready for whatever comes next, which will almost certainly involve a lake, a boat, two dogs, and a house full of laughter.
Because with Morgan and Dalin, it was never about chasing something perfect.
It was always just easy.
